Second in our reviews for winches another low cost high power winch. Check out the Champion 10,000 lb. winch. This winch comes with the controller, roller fairlead, a snatch block, and a reciver mounting plate. Everything you need to get started. This winch can be purchased at Sams Club for less than half the price of the more expensive winches, and is easy to install. Below are some specs and features it has.

Features:

  • Cam action free spooling clutch
  • 3 stage planetary gear system
  • 12 foot remote
  • Integrated solenoid assembly
  • Automatic brake in drum
  • We checked out model number C10085 for this review.

Our first impression was that for the price this was a well equipped winch that includes almost everything you would need to get the winch mounted and going. Simple 2 wire hook up makes it so any one can hook it up. At 3.6 hp and a line speed of 4.6 ft/m at full load are about half of the competition. But if you are not in competition, this will be fine.

The reciver mounting plate is a plus if you have a reciver mount bumper on front and rear. We had to order a mount for the Jeep, this is to be expected when purchasing. And the fairlead was a nice added bonus (this could cost you up to $100 depending on brand) as was the snatch block. However the winch did not include a cover .

This is a heavy item, but not so much that it make the nose of the Wrangler dip too much. I found this to only be about 3/4” difference than with out it. A simple coil spring spacer should fix this. We worked the free spooling action and it was easy to engage, and smooth. And the return was just as smooth. The manufacture suggest using a battery rated at 650 cold cranking amps, I have upgraded to the optima yellow top battery, and it does dim the lights a bit, but should work fine when I need it, might be time for a duel setup?

The user manual does have some helpful tips on using there winch, good for first time buyers that never used one before. And the instructions are pretty straight forward.

So in closing, If your on a budget and need a winch, this might just work out for you. Not a bad way to add a useful. accessory to your Jeep.
