Homemade High Lift Jack Mount

Our resident fabricator is at it again. James was able to get a high lift jack and wanted to mount it to hood. And with a little help from Project “X” and the old door hinges he was able to make his own mounting system.
We start out with a used set of lower door hinges removed from Project X when we installed the new black hinges hinges. First off start by removing all of the factory paint from the hinges. This can be done with a wire wheel or sandblaster. The two mounting holes for the lower door hinge mount line up with the back two holes on the hood.
Here you can see the two hinges and how the bolt holes line up. We will be using only the stock bolts to mount this to the hood.
You will need a vise and a B.F.H. (Big Freaking Hammer) in order to bend the hinge. But first, cut the threads off of the door hinge. We will not be needing them any more because we will be welding the hinges in a fixed position for this project. If you do not have access to a welder, you could add washers to this and tighten the nut so it will not move. But welding will be safer.

Next place the long end of the hinge in the vice about leaving 1.5” to 2.5” to use as a mounting surface. Start bending the hinge back with the B.F.H. Note the face of the hinge should be facing “UP” when you have finished the bend.
Now that you have your hinges bent, If you haven’t already done so, remove the factory paint. Place the hinge back in the vice, and using a small level, set the lower door hinge mount to where is will be level enough to mount the bracket straight. Tack weld to hold it in place. Once both brackets are finished, completely weld the hinge solid.
Now that you have the bracket welded, take a long bolt and run it threw the existing hole in the bracket and tack weld it. If you are not welding on your bracket, a long fully threaded bolt will be needed with a nut and lock washer to hold it in place.
Using the bolts you just mounted. Place them in the vise and paint the brackets using the paint of your choice. The best option would be to use Herculiner or POR 15 as there finish will last longer. We used Herculiner for this project, as with many of our Project, it is our finish of choice.

Once you are finished, mount the bracket and jack to your hood. You can use wire ties to keep the handle in place if you don’t already have a High Lift handle isolator. If your bolt is long enough you can mount other items on top such as a shovel.
