Skyjacker Hydro 7000 Shocks

Shocks reviewed: Part Number H7018 (rear), Part Number H7016 (front)

When I got my 2” lift springs I knew I could use the stock shock, but they wouldn’t last long. I opted for the Hydro 7000 From Skyjacker. I wanted a smooth ride on the road, more like the stock ride. I don’t get too much of a chance to go heavy off-roading up here in Northern Indiana, but I still wanted to have it where it counts if I do.

Many performance shops have these shocks, I purchased them from Rap Automotive in Goshen. I have gotten parts from these guys before and I have never been let down. It only took a day to get them in the store, and there prices were better than ordering them online (No super high shipping cost).

The worst part of the install was the bushings, you have to install them before mounting the shocks, although this is common with after market performance shocks, I still hate doing it. Can be a pain at times, but once you find your trick to installing the bushing, it’s a cake walk from there. James was doing the install of the new springs while I prepped the shocks. Luckily the stock shocks came right off. Was a bit harder to change his being an older TJ.

As for the ride, it seems to be allot smoother ride than the stock shocks, Now I don’t rattle my teeth when going over rail road tracks, general road conditions are smooth, But old dirt roads and poorly maintained paved road you can feel the road, but still not as bad as having stock shocks. At lower speeds on trails and dirt roads the is allot more pleasant, more of a gentile ride than stock, where you feel like your Jeep is going to rattle apart.

All in all I would highly recommend these shocks to anyone that will need new ones, or will be doing a budget lift. If you are fortunate enough to be able to get a higher lift, go with the Skyjacker brand lift, you’ll be happier in the long run.
